‘These boys love cricket but they come on and they’re absolutely transformed, the music just takes over…I defy anybody to come into this hall this morning and hear those boys playing that Shostakovich and not become excited and moved and addicted to chamber music for the rest of their lives.’
William Lyne (Artistic director of Wigmore Hall, 1966-2002) – ABC Classic FM 02/07/05

‘The Benaud Trio have developed a fantastic savoir fair with works of non-classical influence. Some classical musicians pay only a stilted homage to anything jazz or pop-infused, but Benaud launch wholeheartedly into these styles with the temperament that they deserve. They also understand that not all music is deadly serious.’

‘The Benaud Trio…won their section in the 2005 Australian Chamber Music Competition. No wonder, judging by their first Adelaide concert. On the normally sticky and unfriendly Grainger wicket, they batted up several tons. Amir Farid (piano), Lachlan Bramble (violin) and brother Ewen (cello) are well under 30 and have been together as an ensemble for only 18 months. Obvious soul mates, they displayed sensitivity to each other and to their music way beyond their years. Complementing the vim and vigour of their work were moments of intimacy that transformed the cavernous space into a chamber, drawing the audience into their charmed circle.

‘Pianist Amir Farid had immense stage presence. His opening solo was spacious, warm in tone and unrushed…Brothers Lachlan (violin) and Ewen (`cello) Bramble gave polished and engaging performances. The trio was thrilling to watch: their constant eye contact and body language signified close artistic bonds.
